Celebration dinner after our first year of incorporation

Dear readers

To celebrate our first year of incorporation, the board decided that there was enough funds in the kitty to buy dinner for the members and their spouses.

I was tasked with organising the dinner at Hawkers Cuisine. From the numbers at 23 , we ended up with over 30 guests. It was a good evening It was great to see the members enjoying themselves and discussing the future for the association.

Our association has 31 registered members and is growing.

2014 TAN AND TAN Lawyers Cup

Dear readers

What a great day we had. The gods were kind with the weather.

Thanks firstly to Sheng Ke and Gao Feng for organising the game.

without them the competition would not have succeeded the way it has.

We had 31 players this year. A great turnout especially bearing in mind I was in NZ for the last few weeks and could not market the game to my contacts.

results will be posted soon.

Shen’s Hole in One Competition

Dear Golfers

What a great day we all had at Mt Lawley Golf Club with Sheng as our host.

Registration started at 12 pm and all the players were eager to test their skills at the course. The format was a 2 ball best ball ambrose.

With my 21 handicap, I partnered Martin Wong who has a 2 handicap. Suzi Sheng who now plays off 11 partnered Angie Yang, who plays off scratch.

Matthew Posa from Murdoch Pines Driving Range  sponsored a golf bag, golf balls and 200 free range balls for all the players. Unfortunately as he was not walking well, it was decided to pair him off with Liu who was also injured so that they can share a motorised buggy.

There were 4 groups that teed off. It was a smaller gathering compared to the usual competition turnout as it was not a weekend.

Martin and I gave Angie and Suzi a tough time making sure that we kept close to their scores. They managed 5 birdies. Martin and I managed to draw with them with an equal 5 birdies. As my handicap was higher, Martin and I were initially declared the winner. However, when Gao Feng found out I had forced the girls to tee off from the men’s box, it was decided that Angie and Suzi should be the actual winners.

Gao and his partner came in 3rd.

Everyone progressed to Shanghai Tea House for a great dinner sponsored by Shen.
The next comp will probably be the Tan and Tan Lawyers Cup.

Golf day at Meadow Springs, Mandurah

Dear members and golfers,

The association through the assistance of our President Shen and Vice President Gao, organised a great golf day at Meadow Springs Country Club at Mandurah. This was on 24 November , Sunday.

We had approximately 30 players with a few new members.

The day did not start well as it started at raining at 12 pm just before the tee off was organised. It caught many of the players by surprise as the day had started out as bright and shiny. Many did not bring their golf umbrellas.

However, we were lucky as the rain quickly disappeared after 20 mins and we had the rest of the day as a great golf day.

I was playing with Shen, my son Jazton and Kai a new resident from Beijing. Kai is finding his legs in Perth and I am sure he will be a great addition to the membership for the association. Our president Shen was unstoppable and went on to get quite a few pars. It looked like he was going to be the net champ unless I gave him a fight.

Kai also brought his young son who I am sure will also be a great player.

The competition was won by Jason, as gross champ, Henry as Runner Up gross champ and Loi as 3rd gross champ.

I was 2nd nett champ with Shen as nett champ on a score countback as we ended up with the same score.

We were pleased to see new members joining including Wen Xiu, Fei and Alec Tang.

The association is growing. The ladies and youth membership is also growing which bodes well for the association.

Thanks to Linca Wines for their sponsorship.

We will be looking forward to the next comp.

The 2013 AGM and the results of the Vines Competition

Dear readers and members

It was a great Sunday morning. The player started arriving at 1030am at the Vines. As usual Gao Feng, Henry and Sheng had done a great job organising the competition. Many of us do not know how much has to be done to organise a golf day.  Meals have to be arranged. The officials have to organise the players’ tee off times. Scores have to be calculated.

Moneys have to be collected for the membership. We do it all for the love of the game.

We had our first AGM at the conference room after a light lunch.

The following positions were filled with unanimous support.

President: Sheng Shen
Vice President: Gao Feng
Secretary: Henry Pua
Treasurer: Raymond Tan

Beautiful photos were taken by Dan Zhou as usual. I will be updating the blogs with the photos in due course.

There were a total of 34 players  including Consul Liu and Consul Tang from the Chinese Consulate.

We also had Gareth and Nick representing Newman and Brooks who sponsored the nearest the pin and longest drive competition.

It was a very windy day and many of the players had trouble staying on the fairway.

As I was in the first group I managed to get my name on 2 of the nearest the pin holes. Alas, by the time we got back to the clubhouse, I was out of contention. I even had my name down on the longest drive as Gareth and Sheng ended in the bunker. Of course that did not last long as the other players rolled in from behind.

The players returned to the clubhouse by 6 pm for dinner at 630pm.

The winners were:

Nearest the pin:

Hole 4: Jacky Chan
Hole 7: Jason Ng
Hole 3: Gang Fu
Home 16 : Kwang

Nearest the pin : Jason
Nearest the pin, Hwang
Longest drive, Ricky

Gross Winner:

1. Teik  Loi
2. Henry Pua
3. Jason Ng

Jason Ng, Gross 3rd place
Henry Pua, Gross 2nd place

Loi, Gross first place

Nett winner:

1. Sheng Shen
2. Chan Long
3. Raymond Tan

Raymond Tan , nett 3rd winner
Chan Long , Nett 2nd winner
Shen Shen, Nett 1st winner

A great day for golf. On the way home, there were discussions about changing the game format. We have had Loi, Jason and Henry monopolising the gross scores wins. They are the strongest players in the group and many of us cannot compete against them as they are nearly scratch players.

Natalie with our youngest golfer

I think the format for the next game will be nett prize winners for the first 6 players.

It has also reached the stage where we should be able to give official handicaps to all the players.  That means those with high handicaps do not have to play off 18.

I am investigating how we can arrange golf link handicaps for the players who do not have an official handicap. That can only make the game fairer for all.

Night.
